Lagos State Government (LASG) Trains 1,000 Unemployed Youths

Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development, in collaboration with Rated Cranes and Scaffold Nigeria Limited, commenced a Seven-Day Vocational Training Programme in Plant and Heavy Equipment for over 1,000 unemployed youths in the state.Lagos State Government (LASG) Trains 1,000 Unemployed Youths

Speaking at the Gbagada and Oshodi Youth Centre during the opening ceremony of the training programme, the State Commissioner for the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf said the vocational training programme is targeted at bridging the gap between what the vocational centre offers and the demand of employers of labour.

She noted that it is in fulfillment of the commitment of the state government to promote and encourage the acquisition of technical skill as a catalyst for youth empowerment, job and wealth creation.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director, School Social Services in the Ministry, Mrs. Foluke Omotosho, stated that “the training programme is a life transforming exercise because it will present a platform for the teeming youths to equip themselves with necessary knowledge for self-reliance which will invariably help them cater for themselves and their families.”


Akinbile-Yussuf informed that Governor AkinwunmiAmbode is rapidly expanding the state road network system to improve the movement of goods and services, noting that such construction projects require not only experts and dedicated workers but also skilled technicians who can operate and service the heavy duty equipment used in road construction.

She observed that modern industries are being established in all parts of the state where skilled and well trained workers are needed to ensure that goods manufactured meet world standard.
According to her, “I want to assure you that Lagos state will continue to explore various avenues and partnership to make the youth in the state to be gainfully employed as well as build an economy that thrives on youth productivity.”

The Commissioner commended Rated Cranes and Scaffold Nigeria Ltd. for her effort in championing the development of young people into competent skilled worker and wealth creators through technical skill training.

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Social Development, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said knowing that the youths constitute the richest wealth of any nation, the Ministry is open to partnering organizations that are youth focused and available to promote the socioeconomic wellbeing of young people in the state in line with the policy of the present administration.

Mr. Muri-Okunola, who was represented by the Director of Youth, Mr.Ademosun, admonished the trainees to demonstrate high level of commitment, dedication and passion during the training programme that would steer them to greater heights.

He also urged all private sectors, academia, philanthropist and the society at large to collaborate with government in the war against youth unemployment in the state.

The General Manager, Rated Cranes and Scaffold Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Kehinde Ologuntoye, who described the organization as a safety oriented company, enjoined the trainees to ensure safety at all times and obey their instructors in the course of their training.

The training programme, which commenced on Monday, will cover the operation of mobile crane, wheel loader, excavator, backhoe, scaffold and construction site safety tips.
