Carpenter Arraigned For Killing Human Rights Lawyer

Carpenter Arraigned For Killing Human Rights Lawyer Man, 25, was on Wednesday July 22 arraigned before an Ikeja High Court for allegedly killing a Lagos based human rights lawyer, Kunle Fadipe and his mother-in-law. The accused is identified as Oluwaseun Oladapo and a resident of 24, Osho Street street, Panseke in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital is facing a five-count charge bordering on murder, armed robbery and assault occasioning harm before Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye. According to the prosecution which led by Idowu Alakija of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) alleged that Oladapo committed the offences at 3.00 a.m. on July 4, 2014 at Fadipe’s residence located at No. 1, Harmony Estate, Ifako-Ijaiye in Iju area of Lagos. READ ALSO: How My Son Was Murdered At NDA – Wing Commander Alakija said that Oladapo while armed with a kitchen knife, gained forceful entry into Fadipe’s home to rob him of an unspecified sums of money. She said in a struggle that ensued during the robbery, the accused stabbed Fadipe as well as members of his family which included his son, Folahanmi, his mother-in-law, Mrs Cecelia Owolabi and one Abiola Owolabi. The prosecutor narrated further that Fadipe sustained serious injuries in the attack, while his mother-in-law was stabbed on the chest leading to their deaths. Alakija said the offences contravened Sections 171, 221 and 295 (2), (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Oladapo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. After the charges were read to the accused, Alakija made a request to the court that the trial should commence immediately. The defence counsel, Mr Worer Obuagbaka, however, objected to Alakija’s request because he was not ready to proceed with the trial. READ ALSO: PDP Chieftain Shot Dead In Port Harcourt “My Lord, I was just given the brief to defend the accused less than an hour ago.From my perusal of the proof of evidence before me, there is no autopsy report available.This is a grievous offence and the defence needs adequate time to prepare for the trial,” he said. Based on the argument of the defend lawyer, the judge adjourned the case to August 17 and August 18 for the prosecution to open its case
